So we're not all lucky enough to live in Australia during December & therefore not able to strut around outside with bare arms and legs? No problem at all! Add a little warmth to this look by wearing a vintage high waisted wool skirt. Paired with a neutral ruffled chiffon blouse, your favorite (wool) tights, and a perfect pair of heels or boots. I think this look is quite acheivable even in the middle of winter. I don't care if you're "not supposed" to wear light, white, sheer fabrics or even lace in the middle of winter. In the right proportions, I think they can work quite well. (Even if they're only seen indoors, or worn in milder California weather!)

Here are a couple 70s wool skirts, that I believe balance the chiffon blouse quite well. Very similar to that lovely outfit on the Sartorialist, I would wear any of the three! At any rate both skirts will be up in the boutique within the next couple days. As for the chiffon blouse, I believe it is from Forever 21. And the brown boots are made by Jessica Simpson in the "Yana" style. They're my absolute favs!

So elegant & feminine, yet simple & chic! This look is by far one of my recent favorites from the Sartorialist. I absolutely love the top with its sheer black chiffon like texture, adorable ruffles, & slightly puffed sleeves. I have many blouses similar to this one, but not one in black. (Just added to my must have list.) And that skirt... the perfect height & fit! I'm not usually a fan of the high waisted pencil skirt, but she definatly pulls this one off nicely & in the loveliest shade of gray. Now if I could only find this exact skirt or one similar, I could die happy! Hehe.. hope you're all having a wonderful weekend!

Do you ever wonder if the road you're heading down is the right one? Lately this thought seems to keep crossing my mind. As I look back over the past 5 years, I've noticed that a fear of failure has paralyzed me in a lot of ways from pursuing many of my passions. It's this doubt that always tells me I'm not good enough to succeed. It's this doubt that has kept me from finishing school.

Sometimes I'm lazy & want everything to come easy. But at the same time I know that nothing that I want will come from thinking or acting like this. I'm definatly one of my toughest critiques... but I'm learning how to use this for my benefit.

Just like the women in this photograph, I have no idea what the future holds, in fact it's quite blurry and obscure, but I do know what fuels my passion and what doesn't. So for once in my life I'm putting one foot in front of the other and leaving everything else behind. It's time to be selfish for once. It's time to face my fears. Because I've learned the hard way that it's better to take a chance on what you love, than to look back and wonder what if.....

**Break out the boots!!

Can you tell I'm a little excited?? As the first signs of fall are upon us, the one thing I'm most excited about is the fact that I get to break out my favorite boots again. I've definatly missed them this Summer. These Jessica Simpson "Yana" boots are still my favorites. I actually took a quick look around the web, but honestly none of the other boots really compare. However, I did find the same boots on ebay with a starting bid of only $37, so if you're a size 7 this is a huge deal off the price I paid last season... you can check it out here!

**I also had a quick question... I don't know if it's just me, but my right heel of my boots always seem to become discolored. My first guess is it must be from my black mats in my car... although I didn't think they were that dirty. Does anyone else ever have this problem? And if so do you have any suggestions as to how to clean the leather without ruining it? Thanks!

First off, I must apologize for the delay in the posting new dresses... when I first started my new job I didn't realize how many hours I would actually be working and in effect how much it would take out of me. I guess after not working for almost 9 months, working an 8 hour day on your feet, running around all the time, can take it's toll. My feet have taken the brunt of this new job... but don't worry it's nothing that a nice hot bath & glass of bubbily can't fix after a long day's work! :) What do you all do to relax after a long day at work??

I'm also happy to announce that I have adjusted nicely & that today marked a new beginning for Vintage Rose. From now on, I will continue to add a couple of new dresses daily, starting with the following end of Summer beauties....

Life Update....

Sorry that I have been MIA over the last month, but I have been actively searching for a job... & in this economy especially in Napa it has taken me a bit longer than I had imagined. However, I'm happy to announce that I finally found a new serving job and will finish training tomorrow! I know I said I would never go back to working in a restaurant again, but I found the cutest little cafe with the sweetest employees & wonderful outdoor seating that I decided why not?? Plus I can't beat the money!

The beautiful drawing above was drawn by my lovely twitter friend Jade Boylan after one of my photographs! Isn't it just great?? :) You can find it here if you're interested, along with all her other wonderful illustrations!

And just so you know... within the next week or so, I plan to have a grand re-opening of Vintage Rose. It's officially Monday, & I have to face the reality that I can no longer put off finding a job.. (Which is my least favorite thing to do ever!)

And I couldn't think of a better way to brighten my mood this morning, than by slipping into my favorite floral dress... Do you know the feeling, when you put on that favorite dress & it somehow immediately puts a smile on your face?

Although it's far from what I usually wear on Monday mornings, I'm hoping that maybe this dress will give me the inspiration to go look for a job. That is if I ever stop procrastinating by taking photos & messing around in photoshop... I guess you could say I'm easily distracted! ♥

When the wonderful Ashley from Vintage Petals tagged me to pick some of my Etsy favorites, I didn't realize how long it would actually take. And not only does her style remind me a bit of my own, she also has a very similar look to the wonderful vintage store here in downtown Napa called, "Betty's Girl Boutique."

Isn't this photo beautiful?? It was taken on my birthday in Santa Cruz... I absolutely am not a morning person, but I just happened to wake up super early this particular morning to go to the bathroom, when I saw a little bit of light shinning through the small crack in the curtains. When I walked over to look outside, I was amazed at this beautiful scene! Isn't it gorgeous? Definatly one of God's many masterpieces! And what a perfect surprise to wake up to....

Although I may be pretty grumpy in the morning, there is something so peaceful & relaxing about waking up before the rest of the world does. Today after I took Damian to work, I was sitting in the living room just enjoying the peaceful quiet. I guess it's just nice to enjoy the silence once in awhile, before the stressors & worries of life begin to fill my day.

Thanks to blogger AlixRose, I was informed that Forever 21's new "Love" line came out yesterday. The line is supposed to be a bit more sophisticated, while the garments are made of a higher quality fabric. The dresses in the look book were quite lovely. The first floral dress & the last chiffon one were two of my favorites! I was a little disappointed though when I went to check out the store and realized neither dress was available for sale online. ♥

Some of the chiffon blouses were quite nice though, totally that sheer Summer look that I've been obsessing over lately. ♥

I can't believe how fast time flies by. It seems like just yesterday that I graduated high school & I can't even believe that it's already been 8 years! It must be the fact that my birthday is in a couple days & I am anything but thrilled. I don't know what it is, but I have never really liked my birthday. And now it just seems like I'm getting old! Haha... I know that I'm still young, but it just seems like I am no where near where I had imagined myself to be, 8 years ago.

Writing this post made me want to look through old photo albums from high school. So here are a few pics from my senior year along with the girls that made high school bearable! Three of the four are married, & two have kids... and even though I don't speak to most of them often they'll always have a special place in my heart!

I'm officially back to blogging after spending the last week without a voice & feeling like crap! So to celebrate the fact that I no longer sound like a 80 year old women who smoked her whole life, I decided to dress up a bit.

Actually Friday's & Sunday's are two of the only days that I get to enjoy wearing my lovely vintage dresses. The rest of the week I usually just throw on a feminine blouse & my favorite pair of Seven jeans. I guess I just find it sort of a waist to get all dressed up when I spend most of my time behind the computer! Well that & the fact that I don't find shopping for hours wearing a dress exactly comfortable.

This all may be changing soon tho, because I have my fingers crossed on a couple part time jobs, which I'm keeping to myself until I hear the news about whether I got them or not. One thing for sure though, neither of them will be in the restaurant industry! (Thank God).

Until that day, I will have to keep enjoying my wonderful Friday morning coffee with the girls. Today was beautiful, a perfect morning to sit outside & enjoy my vanilla latte. I am getting kinda worried though about how ridiculously hot this summer will probably be! I have to warn you I'm extremely grumpy when I sweat... haha. Oh well, until then I will have to cherish this wonderful Spring breeze that is blowing through my window as the sun sets!

Ghost of vintage past....

I still can't get over that royal blue Marc Jacobs dress from yesterday! I don't care if it's raining outside, if I had it I would slip it on right now with my favorite black boots & coat. It reminds me of this adorable black & white dot dress I sold when I first opened Vintage Rose. It was made out of this super lightweight semi-sheer cotton and had the cutest shape with a ruffle down the bodice almost exactly like the Marc Jacobs one. It's one of the few dresses I wish I would've kept for myself. Oh well, the great thing about selling vintage is that I never know what lovely & wonderful dresses I will discover tomorrow!

Happy May Day everyone! I remember the first day of May as usually being warm & sunny, and a perfect start to Spring. Instead it's still raining and overcast! I absolutely adore the smell outside when it first starts to rain. It's so calming & refreshing. And this lovely rain means that I get to wear my favorite boots again!! I had a wonderful time browsing through beautiful vintage photographs on flickr yesterday. As I looked through these absolutely stunning photographs, I began to think about the women they portrayed & how much time had changed since these were taken. The dresses were so feminine & gorgeous... with tons of lovely little details.

It reminded me of a conversation I had last weekend, with this guy at a thrift store. He asked me what I was going to do with all of the dresses I was buying. When I told him I was going to wear them, he looked at me almost suprised. Then he went on to talk about how women these days don't really wear dresses & about how classy he thought it was when they actually did.

I left with a smile on my face that day because although he didn't know it he had given me a beautiful compliment on my boutique. Somehow, that was what I was trying to represent with my dresses. Classic femininity.

Just out of curiosity, do any of you have a favorite site or flickr set for vintage photography? I found a lot of great photos although some of them I wasn't able to download.

What a cute little way to dress up your feet! I immediately fell in love with these Carvela Gwen heels. Not only is the blue satin color gorgeous, but I love the idea of the back bow!

Ohhh and how could I resist this FUSCIA pair by Lanvin?? I think I may be inspired to try dressing a pair of my heels up with bows... what do you guys think??

Abandoned beauty....

Dean Isidro photography, taken from "Luphia loves" blog

While browsing through different blogs this morning I stumbled upon a few Dean Isidro photos from Venice, that I absolutely fell in love with. His dramatic textures & colors combined with beautiful models & dresses, just blew me away. I've always loved monochromatic blues. In high school, I took an art class where my concentration was blue self portraits. (I will try to find & post some of these later....) There's something about the color that has always intrigued me. It's calming and draws you in, yet also a bit depressing. The use of blue definatly adds a lot of emotion.

Dean Isidro's photographs reminded me of this girl Beth who I found on myspace. I absolutely love her photography as well. She takes the abandoned & neglected, and photographs them in a way that gives them new life & beauty. Much in the same way that us vintage collectors find abandoned & sometimes neglected dresses & work at giving them another life. I've always been fascinated by abandoned buildings and the occupants that once lived there, just like my love for vintage dresses & the stylish women of the past that wore them. At any rate, both photographers use of color & texture amaze me! I sense a series of my own photographs in the near future.... What do you think....

I had such a lovely day in the city Saturday! It was actually quite warm and I managed to drag my sis around to a few vintage/thrift stores! She's not much of a thrift store shopper, but I think she had fun. I don't know why I never go to the city to look for vintage?! I guess I'm just lazy, since the city is so big & overwhelming. But since I can't leave town for the next couple days since my car is about to completely quit, I may have to take another trip to SF on Thursday! That is if (crossing my fingers) my car gets fixed on Wed & (crossing my fingers again) it's not too expensive!

Either way here are my finds from Saturday, they will all be in the store over the next couple days.....

Gold Princess Heels - $32

It's kinda funny to think that I was the biggest tomboy ever growing up! I love telling people that because no one ever believes me... but I really was! My mom used to buy me dresses for Christmas & I would cry and complain because I never wanted to wear them. Actually Christmas was probably the only time I would ever wear a dress... it's funny to think back! I was also a really good soccer player & the biggest clutz! Haha ok so that part hasn't changed... I still somehow manage to trip going up & down the stairs almost daily, even when I'm not wearing heels! :))

But if I could squeeze my big 'old clumsy feet into these lovely princess heels... I definatly would! Oh how I wish I could go back to a time when these still fit!

I've always considered myself a black and white sort of person. You know all or nothing. It's really hard for me to see the middle ground sometimes. I tend to either put all my time & effort into something or absolutely no energy into it at all. My career, relationships, & dreams have always followed this black and white philosophy. I think that is where my passion stems from, yet also my tendency to change my mind all the time & start something new. It's not considered failure if you're the one that decides to quit & move on. However, "There is no failure except in no longer trying," as Elbert Hubbard says. I am going to definatly have to work on this. I know for one thing that I have always been my hardest critic.

But on a more cheerful note... remember I said I wanted a 70's black & white floral dress?? Well I found this one today & absolutely love it... if only it were short sleeved.... hmmm, I really wish I knew how to sew better....

I must admit that I have been a little bored lately, shooting, editing, measuring (Which I absolutely hate!), and posting because it has kept me inside the last few days... so today I am heading off to the thrifts with hopes of finding some lovely little treasures! I always try to shop early in the morning, but I can never seem to get moving before around 12. I guess I must face the fact that I will never be a morning person... I think it has to do with working in a restaurant for the past 5 years & not going to sleep until after 2 every night. (Which by the way I still don't miss at all!)

Just a few shots I was messing around with in Photoshop last night. I've always loved black & white photography way more than color... they just seem to have so much more emotion!

So I didn't have much luck today finding an affordable alternative to my wooden shoe craze, let alone anything vintage in my size. However, I did find a couple more options to choose from... Remember those nude Jeffery Cambell ruffled heels I wanted?? Well they're all sold out in my size! :( Having big feet (size 10) is usually a bad thing. Most of the time it's bad because I tend to find super cute shoes in size 7's or 8's. Here are a few of my new favorites. I love the white ones, but once again they're the most expensive....

All three of these are 70's inspired with lots of straps & wooden heels, maybe I'll be lucky enough to find a vintage pair like these. That would be nice.... although it's not much easier to find vintage heels in my size. None the less... here they are....

My new Easter tradition is to make chocolate covered strawberries. But instead of using regular chocolate, I opt for white chocolate which is easily dyed into lovely pastel colors. They end up super cute & delicious. I will show you how I do this later, it's super easy & makes a lovely Easter gift.

Now that I have my listings done for the day, I will be working on these & then heading to my grandmother's for dinner. I hope everyone has a lovely Easter weekend & remembers what Easter is really about...

Oh ya.. and by the way here are a few new dresses that will be in the store tonight. The rhinestone dress is my new favorite & if my Easter dress doesn't arrive today I will be wearing that one tomorrow! :))

Although it's been forever since I checked out Hautelook's sample sales, I decided to take a peak this morning & fell in love with these bold black & white dresses by Thomas Wylde. They have a sexy feminine vibe to them that I love.

So the boys dragged me to the new Fast & Furious movie, & although it is not really my type of thing, it was ok. It made me want to slip on one of these dresses & head for a deserted beach somewhere in Mexico. (Okay so I may have been day dreaming a bit during the movie) But these dresses are lovely & although today felt like winter with the thunder storms and pouring rain, I can't help but dream of Summer... Or maybe I can pair one of these dresses with my favorite brown boots, belt, & coat when Spring kicks back into gear.... Either way, here they are & all will be in the store this week! :)

I must say that I've always adored French stye. Dainty lace details & feminine florals are my favorite. And although I haven't quite narrowed down my outfit for Easter I thought that a wonderful way to enhance it would be by adding one of these lovely vintage beaded purses.

It had to have been 75 degrees here today & what better way to embrace this lovely Spring weather than with one of these pretty pink sundresses?! It's impossible not to have a smile on your face when you wear one of these. It's something about the color pink, at least to me, that immediately brightens my mood. I absolutely adore these Daughters of the Revolution sun dresses. Their beautiful floral prints, hippie inspired silhouettes, and lovely sheer fabrics are perfect for Spring! Designed by Malibu native Emily Cadenhead it was very interesting to learn that they are also dyed in chemical-free vegetable dyes. I can imagine wearing one of these as I walk barefoot down a beach....

Although at $250 a piece, I may have to settle for the vintage version. At least for right now. Here are the best vintage substitutes I could find....

Spring Fever**

What a wonderful warm week it was here, warm enough to wear little spring dresses without a cardigan! It's funny how yesterday was officially the first day of Spring & I walked outside this morning and BRRRRR it was freezing! It is super overcast and windy, it almost felt like I was at the beach or something... Oh well I guess it won't be as hard to stay inside and be productive when I'm not distracted by the sun shinning through my window, filling my head with thoughts about what better things I could be doing outside! :)

p.s. Isn't this photograph from Jim-AR's photostream absolutely amazing?? The vibrant complimentary colors bring it to life along with the shadows & glows of the background. I only strive to take photograph like this!

I never used flickr very often before, but have recently realized how amazing some of the photographs really are. I spent some time this morning just browsing through vintage inspired photographs and stumbled upon these lovely pics on amalinny's photostream. I love the last one, the use of depth of field really makes it feel like an old photograph. Now I want to go find a deserted drive-in or other old semi-creepy place to take some pics. I've always loved old abandoned houses, although there aren't too many around Napa, wouldn't be too great for tourism I guess....

This is my official blog debut. This photo was taken yesterday, just as the sun was about to set on the way to my parents house for dinner. The dress is a little 1960's plaid mini with the cutest little buttons. I'm kinda glad it hadn't sold yet because it fit me great & was perfect for St. Patty's Day!! The grass & hills behind me were such a bright green that it totally reminded me of Ireland... although, I've never been. The red in my hair totally stood out against the green dress & the setting sun. I can't believe I used to be blonde!

I'd have to say that little 1950's day dresses so far are my favorite! Their cute little prints, adorable feminine details, fitted waists, & flaring skirts are addicting. Some of these remind me of getting dressed up for Easter as a small child, except with a bit more class and a bit less frilliness! Either way I'm looking forward to finding that perfect Easter dress. It's not the economy - A Little Positive Encouragement For A Change!!

A lot of people may think that I've choose to open Vintage Rose Clothing at the worst possible time due to the recession, but here is a very nice & encouraging blog post about how many small business owners may be using the "bad" economy as a scape goat for other reasons why their store may be slow. And although I don't have the funds to hire a business coach like this specific blogger, it is this post as well as many others that seem to brighten my day & encourage me that I can be successful! I know that I have a lot to learn, but I also know that there are a lot of knowledgeable & extremely successful business women specifically on Etsy who already have & will continue to encourage me! And who also will share their advice on what I can do to better my boutique. Click here for the encouraging post!

Although I'm still feeling under the weather after about a week, I did manage to enjoy one night in Tahoe with my love. What a wonderful place to take a break & relax! The water is so peaceful & stunning in the winter. Happy Friday my lovelies! ♥

Rain Rain Go Away....

As it continues to rain & look dreary outside, I can't help but long for Summer. This morning, I couldn't help but smile when the sun happened to peek from behind the clouds... even if just for a minute. And what better way to welcome the sun than with a bright hued maxi dress. Although I haven't figured out exactly how to pull one off yet, I can imagine a nice breezy summer day on the beach wearing one of these, a pair of flat strappy sandals, and this lovely crocheted clutch! (Speaking of which will be up in the store in a few days).

These are just a few of my favorites. I can't help but love the chiffon and adorable black lace details here, or the original 70's hippie bohemian look in this one. My favorite find of the day however is this one, not only does it have a starting bid of only $9.99, but the delicate sheer material & intricate lace details are completely adorable! This floral maxi might be a better choice though if the sun has left you, like me, craving classic Spring pastels.

Hello everyone out there! ♥

I thought I would start off this blog with a little introduction. My name is Tiffany Hagewood and I currently live in the lovely Napa Valley. After spending the past 5+ years in the restaurant industry with a crazy alcoholic boss, I realized that true happiness is worth more in the long run than any amount of money I was making there! It has always been a dream of mine to open a Vintage boutique, which is where Vintage Rose Clothing began. Although I will also be taking on a part time job, my goal is to slowly build up my business so that I can finally return to school full time in the hopes of pursuing a degree in Motion Graphic Design.

Right now I am a one women show. I do everything myself except for a little help from by business partner pictured below.... :)
